We’ll miss the boat looking at the trees. When I say “we’ll”, I mean us, black people. I’m guilty of it, of have been guilty of it, at times. Guilty of worrying about the messenger more than the message. But on the other hand, there’s something to be said about a CREDIBLE source.
“Tell ‘em why you mad Trav”
Every since JAY-Z’s latest album 4:44 dropped, I’ve seen a whole collective dedicated to combatting everything positive about that album. Maybe I’m biased (I’m a Rocafella baby) but it just doesn’t make sense how many “It took JAY-Z to tell yall to…” tweets. Mostly, if not completely, from black people. What’s the issue? Is it that you were smart enough or informed enough to already know the value of real estate, or saving, or marriage prior to the album that you resent your opinions don’t travel like Hov’s does? Newsflash: Way more people know who JAY-Z is and with that they know his business acumen. Or is it that Hov called out some dumb shit you do for bragging rights (Like throwing money in the strip club) as something we shouldn’t be doing too much of and it bruised your image? Newsflash: You can still do what you want to do. Or lastly is it that you just hate any time a lot of people is giving a person credit simultaneously for something? This is the definition of a hater. When you just dislike a person’s success or influence simply because they have more of it than you. I see this a lot. I vow to never be a hater. But it’s a matter of perspective. People interpret your viewpoints based off of their experience. Perspective is personal. I just don’t understand why this man trying to educate our culture and progress the financial literacy and marital importance of our generation and the one after us, would be met with such resistance. Yall bitch too much and don’t listen enough. Take the gems and use them or if you think they’re insignificant, why do you have a problem with other people thinking it’s helpful?
What you eat don’t make me shit!
